Stop Smoking with Hypnotherapy

About 106,000 people in the UK die each year due to smoking. Smoking-related deaths are mainly due to cancers and heart disease. The average smoker will spend approximately £2000 per year to feed their addiction and this cost increases annually.
When you are ready to stop smoking there are several options available to you. Current options include; nicotine replacement therapy (patches and gum etc), acupuncture, hypnotherapy and will power.
There are lots of reasons why people smoke and why they want to quit. Some people started smoking at school to fit in with a gang, some started later in life to cope with stress. People want to quit for a range of reasons including health, financial and because they just want to be free from the habit.
Smokers often plan their day around smoking. Heavy smokers will often have their first cigarette with 15 minutes of getting up in the morning. They may then have a smoke with their morning cup of tea, then one on the way to work. When you are at work you have smoking breaks, possibly one on the way home too. When you are at home you might sit in front of the TV smoking all night.
Smoking is a lifestyle choice and many people put off quitting because they do not know what they will do once they stop. Most smokers have tried to quit at some point in their life, gained weight and then started again. This is a vicious cycle that many people fall into.
Stopping smoking does not have to be difficult or unpleasant process. Stopping smoking can actually be enjoyable and instead of quitting something you can see it as gaining other things instead. When you quit smoking you gain money, freedom from smelling nasty, freedom from having to stand outside in the rain, freedom from habits controlling your life. You gain time, money and personal control, not to mention the health benefits.

How does hypnotherapy help?
Hypnotherapy helps you quit smoking by breaking down the addiction into several parts. Hypnotherapy explores the reasons why you started in the first place, why you want to stop now and what is it that you want to do instead. We have found that the main reason why people smoke is because they feel like it. It has very little to do with the nicotine, instead it is much more to do with emotions. As humans we do things that we like and avoid things that we do not like. Smokers have programmed themselves to enjoy smoking although they know it is bad for them. Smokers’ associate smoking with pleasure, and associate pain with quitting. This naturally steers people towards smoking and away from stopping. Would you eat broken glass? Obviously you would not because you know that it would cause a lot of pain so your mind keeps you away from such an incident. Smoking is extremely dangerous but your mind does not realise this as it does not cause pain and problems instantly. In hypnotherapy we retrain your mind into realising just how dangerous smoking is for you, this then starts to naturally steer you away from it.
