Confidence and Motivation with Hypnotherapy
Problems and symptoms it can present Always wanting something you do not have or something that's out of reach. You also tend to blame this for ruining your life. Great examples are “if I was slim I would be happy”, “if I was rich I would be happy”. Doing things to sabotage or undermine your own success. Do you feel like as soon as you start to make progress in your life you go and mess it all up again? Avoiding intimacy and really connecting with people. Addictions and keeping yourself busy. Instead of really looking at what is causing your problems, people with low self esteem will often keep themselves occupied or become addicted to things. The most common forms of addictions are TV, food, drink, drugs, playing games consoles, excessive internet use, porn, junk food, cleaning, gambling and many more.
People who lack confidence and motivation often regarded as having low self esteem. This presents a wide range of problems and symptoms that include;
Living your life in either the past or future and not concentrating on the here and now.
Constantly putting yourself down. Do you ever think to yourself "I don't deserve..." or "I'll never have ...".
These are all symptoms of the underlying issues.
How does hypnotherapy help?
The most common service I am asked for by clients is help in getting more confidence. Because I only deal with real world results, I help clients achieve goals that are tangible and measurable. My first question always is “what would having more confidence allow you to do, that you cannot do at the moment?”
Hypnotherapy works in 4 stages. You first address underlying issues, then change your internal beliefs about yourself, project your life into the future and finally set small achievable goals.
Addressing underlying issues
Before you are able to progress in your life, you need to know where you are and what has caused problems in the past. A lot of people will know what incident/incidents have caused the problems, yet many do not. When you do not know the problems it is likely to be a repressed memory and this can be explored and released in hypnosis. Typically underlying issues stem from abuse, bullying and family issues. It is likely that the start of these problems happened when you were under the age of 10.
Changing internal beliefs
Once you have clearly understood what has caused the problems, you can address what you believe about yourself. A great way to do this is to see yourself in a situation where you have problems and see what emotions come up. An example would be someone who finds it hard to speak to women. Image seeing yourself trying to talk to a women and see how awkward it is and how you are acting. What sort of person would act that way, what do you think of this person. Once you identify your negative beliefs, they can be neutralised.
Projecting your life into the future
People will low self esteem often think very negatively about the future. When you believe the future is going to be bleak, you naturally feel depressed and have little motivation to do anything. In hypnotherapy we get you to see what your life would be like in the future if you lived the way you want to.
Consider the difference between these two scenarios;
First scenario: You need to walk 10 miles down a road and you know at the end is glass of water and a slice of bread.
Second scenario: You need to walk 10 miles down the road and you know at the end is a bottle of champagne, a cheque for £10m, a new Ferrari, a hot bath, people that you love etc etc.
How much different would you act in the second scenario? In the first you would hardly see the point and have no motivation. You would probably walk slowly with your head hung low, and waste time along the way. However in the second scenario you would be excited, focused and highly motivated. You would walk up mountains, through rivers and tackle anything that came your way.
Setting small achievable goals
A common trait of people with low self esteem is that they want everything now. They want to be perfect straight away and without making mistakes. If you had this attitude when learning to drive, then you would never have got anywhere. In hypnotherapy we set small achievable goals, not massive impossible ones. If you want more confidence in speaking to people you are attracted to, then a small goal may be to talk to 5 people at your work and ask them about their weekend. When you set small goals they are easy to achieve, also when you achieve a goal it makes you feel successful. Success breads confidence, and confidence breeds success.
Large goals are only a lot of little goals put together. If you set small daily/weekly goals then you cannot help but achieve large goals!
